Prof. Barış Tan
Barış Tan is Professor of Operations Management at Koç University, Istanbul, Turkey. He received a B.S. degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Bogazici University (1990), an M.E. degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering (1991), an M.S.E in Manufacturing Systems Engineering (1993), and a Ph.D. degree in Operations Research from the University of Florida (1994). His research areas are design and control of production systems, stochastic modelling of manufacturing systems, and supply chain management. His recent research is on on cooperation, outsourcing, and subcontracting relations in supply chains, especially in the textile/apparel/retail chain.
Prof. Tan has been teaching operations management, management science, supply chain and logistics management courses in the undergraduate, MBA, and Executive MBA programs of Koç University since 1994. Prof. Tan served as the Director of the Graduate School of Business at Koç University during 2002-2005 Prof. Tan held visiting positions at Harvard University Center for Textile and Apparel Research (2000-2001), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Operations Research Center (2001), and MIT Laboratory for Manufacturing and Productivity (1999, 2006-2007). Since 2007, he serves as the Dean to the College of Administrative Sciences and Economics at Koç University.
He is the recipient of Turkish Academy of Sciences Distinguished Young Scholar Award (2005). Prof. Tan serves on the Boards of Turkish Society for Quality and Turkish Operations Research Society.
